Who knows what's gone wrong here?

Heute ist Friendica-Putztag!
Liste der Dinge, die ich schon längst hätte machen sollen:
- Storage-Verzeichnis aus #Friendica hinaus verschoben.
- Installationsmethode von Tarball auf Git gewechselt.
- Update auf 2024.03 installiert.
Es scheint alles geklappt zu haben, einzig die vielen temporären "deprecated" Warnungen haben mich etwas erstaunt. Aber die sind nun ja weg und alles läuft rund.

Da habe ich mich nun wirklich gewundert. Wann man im Browser nicht am Adblocker vorbeikommt, haut man seine Message einfach in die Konsole!

Strange things happen…
After watching a moderate increase of the database size for several days, yesterday the size jumped from 807 to 930, all within 24 hours.
I noticed that tons of records in table apcontact were added or updated during the day. WTF is going on here? Can someone explain to me that this is quite normal or what it is?

It's a sad story, that a stable release got broken by any development. This seems to have a rather low priority for the Friendica devs. Very unfortunate.

Das globale Verzeichnis für #Friendica ist ja seit längerer Zeit defekt bzw. tot.
Ist da überhaupt eine Reparatur geplant?

@OldKid Yeah, I saw the "Outdated Version" labels as well. The directory still seems to be under construction.

Broken avatars
I tried to use the avatar cache to file feature. After seeing that this didn't make any sense for me, I wanted to revert to the former state. (Storing in database/photo/storage)
Unfortunately, this ended up in a real disaster, as all (!) contact records still point to an avatar subdirectory that no longer exists.
Interestingly, some contacts could refresh their avatar, but all the others were not found.
How can I enforce the refreshing of all contacts, to obtain the correct avatars back?
Caching avatars to files
I've set up the avatar caching as follows:
system.avatar_cache => 1
system.avatar_cache_path => /var/www/.../avatar/
system.avatar_cache_url => https\://.../avatar/
cache_contact_avatar => 1 Then I moved all known avatars with
bin/console movetoavatarcacheto the subdirectory avatar/. This removed all avatar records from the photo table, and the storage subdirectory dramatically shrunk. As far as good, I think.
But now, I'd expect that new avatars won't be stored in the photo table any longer. Unfortunately this is not the case, the photo table still grows with avatar records.
In this current state, the external avatar file feature is completely useless, and it takes more storage for the files than it took in the database.
What did I miss?
But according to the browser console, many avatars are not found, still looking up into the removed avatar subfolder. Arggh...
I also went this path and with the same results a while back. However I do not experience my photo table growth, it is around 300MB currently.
I use filesystem as storage backend. When I enabled avatar caching to separate folder I got pretty much the same results but didn't like it so I removed the option and avatars resumed caching in storage folder.
I didn't like turning off avatar caching either because it significantly slowed down the feeds (maybe my server is just not too fast) and some avatars were missing because origin servers were dead. Remote avatars take a lot of space first but then it stabilizes and grows slower.
Nun habe ich auch das Update geschafft. Das war aber ein echt störrisches Biest. Ich hoffe, es läuft das nächste Mal runder.

Kommentar von @Matthias ✔ zu einer Idee inspiriert, wie ich meine Friendica-Datenbank entschlacken könnte.
Zuerst habe ich meine Instanz in den Maintenance-Mode geschaltet und den Cronjob deaktiviert. Danach habe ich mit meinem Admin-Panel (Plesk) die Datenbank geklont, das Original gelöscht und den Klon zum Original zurück geklont. Alles wieder aktiviert und getestet, mit Erstaunen festgestellt, dass die Datenbank von 880 MB auf 754 MB reduziert wurde. Und das Ganze hat nicht mal extra lange gedauert, alles im Minuten- oder einstelligen Minutenbereich.
